The Mermaid Inn, Rye, features 12th-century Norman cellars and secret passageways. Its historic charm is complemented by a huge open log fireplace in the bar and an award-winning restaurant with two AA Rosettes. The 1420-rebuilt inn boasts traditional features, including wooden panelling, carved beds, and picturesque views over Rye, with en suite bathrooms and TVs in every room.

They offered a vegan breakfast option, which is great though it’s not on the table menu and you need to check the website; however, the vegan dinner choices were almost nonexistent, yet the staff remained courteous.

The building is spectacular, the breakfast delightful, the beds comfy, and the room was dark and quiet; the staff were entertaining and helpful, and the location is superb. It would have been nicer if our two rooms were adjacent, especially since we booked so far ahead, but that didn’t matter; the bar area was crowded, though we still received service and the staff were lovely.

Das Mermaid Inn liegt mitten im wunderschönen und lebendigen Ort Rye. Es ist ein tolles Haus, mit langer Geschichte und sehr freundlichem Personal, einem sehr guten Pub und hervorragendem Restaurant. Es ist total authentisch und ich kann es nur empfehlen. Unser Zimmer war wirklich sehr klein, aber super schön eingerichtet und auf seine Art sehr komfortabel – die Betten waren hervorragend. Gar nichts
