“We were mostly disappointed because without a car we we felt confined to the hotel.”
The pool and garden were nice, and there were plenty of books and games, plus yoga and water aerobics classes. Food was mediocre and pricey, and nearby restaurants were lacking; the beach close by was empty with no food, drinks, chairs or umbrellas, catering only to surfers and a young party crowd. Quiet restaurants were several blocks away, and the hotel restaurant didn’t serve dinner. We had to take a taxi to a supermarket on the other side of town for dinner. For younger folks it would be easier to get around, but at our age in the 80s it was hard to handle the loud music from every bar and restaurant, the lack of an air‑conditioned restaurant, and so on.
