“Not great”
The location was good, but there was no traditional Ryokan experience, and bugs and spiders were in our room, leaving us with just a standard sleeping setup.

Tazuru, a traditional Japanese-style hotel, is situated beside the Kamo River in Kyoto. Delicately prepared Japanese cuisine and historic charm define this property. Rooms feature tatami flooring, low tables, and futon bedding. The hotel is a 20-minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera Temple and a 5-minute walk from Kiyomizu-gojo Subway Station, with free Wi-Fi in public areas and a riverside terrace dining experience.

The location was fine, but there was a lot of dust that triggered my allergies, and the place felt very old and not very clean.

The staff were very friendly, but the night on the traditional beds was not very comfortable for us. Still, it was an experience worth trying on a future trip to Japan.

I loved the traditional vibe and the meals were stunning, but I wish they had rubbish bins.

We stayed at Tazuru for two nights and it worked great as a base for exploring Kyoto; it was a 10 minute walk to the small streets and easy to stroll to Gion, and there were plenty of buses nearby. The place was safe and quiet, and our room offered a fantastic view. The room was roomy enough for two people and the futons were comfy.
