The location is very good, the rooms offer a beautiful view of Lake Batur and the mountain, the sheets are clean, and the bathroom is also clean. The accommodation is fine for one night, but for more stay, a hotel room would give you the same price; overall the lodging is clean and comfortable, but the door doesn’t close fully and the floor wasn’t very clean; the hosts are not present but reachable by message (do not hesitate to contact them).

The location is top notch, right in front of the lake, next to a nice coffee shop, and the views are amazing! However, there was no hot water, no lights in the toilet so it gets dark at night, and parts of the tent zipper were broken and could not be fixed; still, it is very recommended for a short stay if you just want to see the sunrise or rest after hiking the mountains around the area.

“Flies, heat and no room to hang out”

The staff were really nice and helpful and eager to help me, but they couldn’t speak English and weren’t always there. In the night it’s an amazing stillness and peacefulness on this side of the lake. The tents get scorching hot during the day so we moved to the wooden cabin, yet a rat lives in the roof and the noise made it impossible to sleep. The place sits in the middle of a farm next to a road, and in the morning and even at night it’s loud from motorbikes, barking dogs and farm work, with flies everywhere—there’s no place to relax during the day. I really don’t recommend this place.

“A magical lakeside glamping experience with cozy nights, breathtaking views, and stargazing”

Surya Camp Buahan offers a beautiful glamping experience right beside Lake Batur and Mount Batur; the higher altitude makes it cool and refreshing—quite cold, in fact—yet the tent came with a warm, cozy bed so we stayed comfortable without extra layers. At night, minimal light pollution creates the perfect setting for stargazing, an absolute treat for astrophotography enthusiasts, and mornings by the lake are stunning with plenty of photo opportunities. Breakfast was included, and the Mi Goreng Sayur served was one of the best I’ve had—simple, flavorful, and satisfying. Overall, the stay was peaceful, scenic, and truly magical; I’d love to return someday. There was a bit of mold on the tent walls that could use cleaning, though the tent didn’t have a musty smell. Also, given how cold the area is, the lack of proper hot water was a bit of a downside; hot water is shared from a central heater in the office, so pressure and temperature aren’t ideal. Installing individual water heaters for each tent would make the experience much more comfortable.
