“Functional, but damp, unattractive and unwelcoming.”
The place had all the modern conveniences like a clothes steamer and a full stove and oven, but we chose to stay outside the city for three nights hoping for a garden to unwind in, only to find a cramped back‑under‑house flat that was nothing like a garden (see the photos). We drove through bumper‑to‑bumper traffic during school pick‑up, up and up and up narrow, winding roads just to get there, and the accommodation we finally reached was dark, damp, and smelled strongly of moisture. Despite the advertised facilities, the interior felt barren and unwelcoming, with no artwork, no color, no decoration, a hard bed, a hard, uncomfortable lounge with a fold‑out futon, and hard IKEA stools for eating—though the deck had comfortable chairs. This was not a place we were excited to return to after a day of exploring Wellington.
