Being right next to the Yubatake meant we could stroll to the main sights with ease. The lack of air‑conditioning and reliance on a fan made the summer heat feel quite uncomfortable.

Everything felt clean, and the staff—including the owner—were genuinely attentive; the building’s historic charm, the carefully designed baths, simple breakfast, and overall atmosphere won me over, making the price a great value given the service, location, and bath quality, and I didn’t mind skipping dinner. The only drawback was the tiny bathroom, which was a real hassle for me at 183 cm, though each floor has its own restroom, so that helped.

We liked how close the place was to 湯畑, so wandering around was a breeze, and after two nights they even gave us a fresh towel on the second day, which felt fair. It was a shame the hot‑springs were on the ground floor while our room was on the third floor with no lift, so we couldn’t visit as often as we’d have liked, and the open‑air bath only fit one person, leaving us wishing it were larger.

The couple running the ryokan treated us kindly in every way, and the “Shiriyaki” hot spring was indeed scorching hot. Breakfast was both healthy and tasty, and we were told we could keep the parking spot until 2 pm after checkout. The only inconvenience was the absence of an elevator, meaning we had to climb stairs to reach our room.
