“DISGUSTING. STAY AWAY.”
I was only pleased that the bed sheets were clean, but everything else was awful. The cigarette smell in the bar and the room was overwhelming, showing that people smoke inside all the time. The lock on the door was flimsy, so as a lone female I felt unsafe and had to prop furniture against it before sleeping. The bathroom was a disaster: hair, dust, cobwebs, limescale and mold on the shower, and the drains looked like they’d been released by the Umbrella Corporation—so I skipped the shower. The toilet had skid marks. The bedroom was only reachable by a short set of stairs that were pitch black because the light didn’t work, so I left the bathroom light on and the door open to see. The cigarette stench hit you as soon as you entered. Four switches on the wall, only one working. Walls were dirty, cracked, dented, and full of cobwebs. The carpet was littered with bits, indicating it hadn’t been vacuumed in a while, and there were huge dark stains everywhere. I kept my shoes on. A broken stool was propped up to look fine. There were a lot of extension cords and plugs, raising concerns about electrical safety. The appliances plugged in included the world’s loudest mini fridge and a ticking portable heater, both of which I unplugged to heat myself. Furniture was covered in crumbs, and the skirting boards had thick dust layers.
