“Horrible”

The room was clean. We checked in, unpacked, left our valuables out, and went for lunch. When we returned, a basket of fruit had appeared on the coffee table, something that wasn’t there before. We realized someone had entered our room while we were away. We asked reception, and they said staff can enter after knocking three times if no one answers. That’s a blatant privacy violation, because someone could be sleeping, using the toilet, listening to music, or doing something else and might not notice a knock. We told reception firmly that nobody may enter unless we say so, and they agreed. The next day the same thing happened. We complained again and received the same answer that it’s their policy. The problem is that the booking site and the paper the hotel asked us to sign at check‑in do not mention such a policy. They’re inventing policies that fit their needs. This was a horrible experience for me. I also lodged a complaint with customer service and have not heard back after more than 24 hours. I’m not the only one with this complaint; I’ve seen Google reviews of people complaining about the same issue. I would take this further than just leaving this review.
