A small room that had everything I needed, and a glass of port on arrival was a nice touch. The place sits right in the middle of town, but the proximity to the train and the bridge makes it pretty noisy, and there are a lot of stairs—both to get in and inside the building.

When you arrive it feels like stepping into a “house that isn’t there,” literally under the bridge at the end of a somewhat rundown area, but you soon discover the place does exist and you access it with various codes. The room itself is tiny but charming, featuring a private bathroom with a sink, shower, and toilet. Just outside is a small but well-equipped shared kitchen for preparing meals. The location—under the bridge—puts you close to the city’s most beautiful areas.
