I could check in at any time during the night, which let me enjoy my evening out. However, safety and privacy were worrisome because the door wouldn’t lock—neither did the key I received—and it was unsettling to know that anyone could walk in while I was in bed.

I spent one night in a single‑bed room. The bed was comfortable, and the room was bigger than I expected. The bathroom featured a full bath and shower, plus bath salts and soap. I didn’t have breakfast, so I can’t comment on that. Check‑in was straightforward, and the room was quiet enough for a good night’s sleep. I was in town for a job interview, and they stored my bags in a secure room while I was away. When I returned, the owner asked me a few questions, and we ended up having a long chat about the biochemistry/chemistry industry, during which he offered a free glass of orange juice. The owners and staff were very friendly and engaging. I’d definitely stay again if I needed to, and I think the room rates are very fair and cheaper than most around Oxford. The area is nice, safe, and has several good pubs nearby. (If the owner is reading this, I didn’t get the job—unfortunately, but I’ll try again next time!)

The location was fine. The room needed redecorating; the bathroom sink had a large crack, there was no TV, and the bedroom door wouldn’t lock, which was very concerning. I asked to move to another room because I didn’t feel safe staying in one without proper security, but I was told no other rooms were available. Apparently there was a way to lock and unlock the door, but in case of fire it would be difficult to get out. The owner said they were fixing it.

The place sits in a great spot, but there was no breakfast available even though we hadn’t booked it the night before.
