Beautiful place in the mountains, well taken care of. Extremely friendly staff. The food is also very special. We attended the service, which requires a short walk up the mountain. We had the family room with the private bathroom, but also used the wine bath, which was wonderful. Futons were known to us already. And if you go to the service, make sure you know where it is beforehand; searching in the dark if you want to be on time isn’t convenient. It’s pricey.

Peace and nature. The people were nice and very punctual. The food, especially. For a Western palate, the food was really bad. The flavor, barely salted, textures… nothing enjoyable. If you eat everything, you might still be hungry. If you don’t eat it, I won’t even mention it. If you want coffee at breakfast, it’s an extra cost; if you want to do an activity, extra cost… when you already pay a reasonably high price… The location: if you go, rent a car, otherwise you’ll be stuck and can’t do much, or you’ll have to hire extra activities. We went with a car and could see Mount Fuji.

“This place is a hidden gem and our favorite part of our trip to Japan.”

My wife and I stayed at several places in Japan over the last two weeks and this spot was by far our favorite. The temple grounds are absolutely breathtaking and the surrounding nature was just as great. It offers many cultural activities, a cute shop with locally made items, and it’s an incredible way to learn more about the local culture and practices. The staff are also incredible. We especially connected with and enjoyed Tomo. She was an incredible host and was so happy to tell us all about the history and the space. This was our shortest stay of the trip but the most memorable. We hope to come back someday. I can’t think of a single thing.
