The hotel is gorgeous, with lovely gardens in the old town, and it’s far enough from the noise and bustle to be peaceful. The staff were pleasant and very efficient, and the breakfast was great. I especially enjoyed the hidden stairs in the back courtyard that take you straight up to the upper town.

The hotel is nicely designed and well‑located in the city centre. I arrived early to avoid crowds, but had to wait more than 15 minutes for someone to open the parking doors; no one answered the bell or answered my phone.

The hotel sits in the city, the breakfast was good, and the bed was comfortable. The parking is 450 m away, and because the hotel is in a pedestrian zone you can’t drive directly to it; the parking is an ugly, littered gravel lot. The carpets in the hallways, on the stairs, and in the rooms were very spotted, and the upholstered furniture was also spotted. The walls had large scuff marks, so overall the hotel doesn’t look clean. I stayed only a minute in my room before heading back to the reception to cancel because I was disappointed. They said booking wouldn’t allow it; when I explained that it wasn’t the case, the free cancellation was denied under the hotel policy and they threatened to charge me the full cost of a night as a cancellation fee. I had booked an hour in advance. There is no lift. The courtyard that looks nice in photos is actually a public passage where the hotel can place a few chairs and tables. I can’t understand the good rating at all and advise against having such expectations. It’s astonishing that the price is set according to the expensive hotels in Zagreb, which I think is completely unfair. With a lower rating and a better price I would have expected less and been less disappointed.

The mattress and pillows were very comfortable, and the staff were very friendly, though they could only help within the hotel’s facilities. Breakfast was good, and the lady who handled us at breakfast was very receptive and kind. The location is in the centre, giving you immediate access to the whole city. However, although the booking site said 20 m², I received an 8 m² room. They approved my request for a double bed, but the allocated room (206) actually had two twin beds stuck together. The carpet was dirty, and the room had a stale air smell. Parking is 300 m from the hotel and you have to carry your luggage to the reception. The hotel has no lift, only two floors, and after walking 300 m with luggage I had to climb two floors to reach the room. I upgraded the room, paying 69 € at the hotel (plus the city tax). The suite I received after the upgrade still had a stale air smell. I paid 193 € for a room that didn’t even deserve 100 €.
