“Tolle Aussicht - aber mit viel Renovierungsbedarf und "Potenzial nach oben"”
The Bijoux sits above the town and harbor with a magnificent view. That’s both a positive and a negative. The great part is the truly breathtaking view – you can see all the way to Vesuvius. At the same time, it’s very tiring without a car because there is no bus connection at the house or nearby. Taxis are extremely expensive, and if you don’t want to keep bothering the owner or his staff to bring you down or pick you up, you have to walk. Downward 20 minutes, upward a strenuous 40 minutes. The rooms are quite large and comfortable, but the furniture, bathroom and overall estate equipment are clearly aged. The condition of the private driveway to the property was heavily worn and more like a patchwork. There is a nice pool, but it becomes ice‑cold from early October and is unusable. A small solar thermal or PV system would provide free, pleasantly warm water year‑round. The owner is very charming and friendly. Unfortunately, you notice in many areas that things are not what a German guest would expect. The car that picked us up from the harbor was in extremely poor condition: aside from a broken rear light and ripped, heavily worn seats, a non‑functional door and loud braking noises, I would never subject my guests to something like that. In the dining room, the ceiling was missing about 10 cm of plaster over a large area, which gave a very uneasy feeling. The chef said in response to another guest’s question that it would be “fixed soon.” For smoking, the chef opens the terrace door, but some smoke still enters the room; an employee lit his electronic cigarette at the kitchen window counter in the dining room and smoked there, which was very unpleasant for us. Breakfast was okay, but for me as a vegan it was unfortunately very limited.
