“Traditionell übernachten und schlemmen im familiengeführten Ryokan”
I felt very comfortable in this lovingly designed, family‑run ryokan. The owner and her daughter were very friendly, and the traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner served on site were absolutely delicious and balanced. The highlight was slipping into the provided yukata each day, going to my private dinner room, and trying new healthy treats – I felt like a princess! The town has little to offer, but that’s fine because the ryokan supplies everything. The room was very large and cozy. From the ryokan you can walk the Togakushi Path, as it sits at the foot of the first shrine. A beautiful lake is nearby. I enjoyed the nature and tranquility of the ryokan very much. After my hikes I relaxed in the bath: there is a kind of oversized bathtub that all guests can use (you go to the bath alone). The toilet is shared too. Some parts of the ryokan are a bit old, but that only adds to its charm. It’s reachable from Nagano by bus, though the service is irregular and the last bus comes early, so plan ahead. From Togakushi I took an express bus back to Nagano, booked online.
