Permai Rainforest Resort

“Not worth it. Take a day trip from Kuching instead.”

The treehouse was pretty cool and the surrounding environment very nice. No fault with Permai, but the adjoining resort blasted loud electronic music with a screaming DJ well past midnight on two nights. It was bad timing on my part, but I should have been warned. Permai’s restaurant menu is bland and the quality is hit or miss. With an expressway being built from the airport to Santubong, the natural landscape will be under more pressure from tourism. Shame.

The location in a rainforest with nearby beaches offers private cabins, walking trails, and other activities, plus a tree house, though a little extra maintenance would help.

“Fantastic location, rainforest and beach in one view! Monkeys all day, good food and walks!”

The location on the beach and in the rainforest was insane! The food was good and breakfast was enough. The walks from the property were so fun and adventurous. The mold throughout the property made a strong smell and it was very basic, but that’s what you’d expect for the location.

Location top! Trails right there—beach nice—breakfast à la carte okay, high‑rope course class! The bathrooms in the treehouses are very old. Towels unfortunately not very clean.

“This property is a great place if you wish to have a getaway from the bustling city life.”

A family of two adults and two children spent a night in the Premium Treehouse, and we all had a great time. The trekking paths were lined with dipterocarp trees and liana vines, and we spotted silvered langurs and a rare proboscis monkey swinging through the canopy while squirrels darted between the trunks. At night, bats swooped under the canopy chasing prey and insects clambered on the thick roots of the buttress dipterocarps. Both beaches were clean and safe for the kids. Because of the holiday crowd, we missed the 2 pm check‑in, but the housekeeping staff worked quickly and the room was ready only 30 minutes late.
