I’d suggest heading to the monument early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid paying extra. The mini markets across the street are handy. I booked online but forgot that payment was due on arrival, so I left early in the morning without paying—luckily the owner in Samarkand helped me transfer the money. Make sure to pay when you get there to avoid an awkward situation.
