What a lovely old pub. We only stayed one night but would love to come back. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, a bit basic, yet excellent value for the price paid. The owners/managers were friendly, professional, and very welcoming. The food was tasty and well priced. I enjoyed the stripped‑back atmosphere of the dining area and bar, which probably hasn’t changed much in the 350 years since it was built. Everything was designed for comfort, creating a relaxed vibe with a mix of guests and locals. This is how country inns used to be before they went upmarket with indifferent managers. Much Wenlock is a delightful old town and the pub sits right in the centre. I can’t believe an earlier review complained about the lack of room service; you’d have to pay much more and choose a very upmarket place today to get that service. Well done.
“Basic but adequate”
Breakfast was adequate, the location was good, and the bed was comfortable, yet the bar noise was very intrusive until 11.30 p.m. closing, especially on Friday night when there was a disco, and the plumbing seemed suspect.
“It’s my go to home from home in Shropshire”
I’ve stayed here several times before. It’s old, creaky and there isn’t a straight line or right angle to the whole place but it’s just how I like it. The room had everything I needed and the food was superb and served by friendly staff who really treated you well. If you like all the mod cons, mirrors, gleaming chrome and everything done with a flourish this isn’t for you which means there’s more chance of a vacancy next time I want to stay
The reception was warm and the staff were friendly, and the breakfast was excellent, but the Wi‑fi in the room was not great.
“Great value for money.”
The location was great, the breakfast lovely, the staff really really nice, and the room was quiet, though there were initial problems with the internet that were resolved.
