“Schöne Unterkunft mit (potenziell) traumhafter Aussicht - leider mit negativen Erfahrungen”
Eugenyo, the owner, and José, the staff member, were exceptionally friendly, and the spot is perfect for exploring the Santa Elena reserve; the wooden rooms next to the dining area have huge panoramic windows that can offer a spectacular view of Arenal volcano and lake when the mist clears, and the breakfast – pancakes or omelet with toast or gallo pinto plus fresh fruit – was very good. However, several pieces of clothing were stolen from our locked room and suitcase, including our daughter’s favorite T‑shirt, plus two other tops that had been hidden under the mattress despite being securely packed elsewhere; we tried to resolve this with the owner, his wife and the cleaning lady who had serviced the room, but to no avail and we doubt the cleaner was responsible. We booked a room for four at eighty dollars a night and asked in advance if our little son could share the double bed; while we understood an extra charge for breakfast or extra occupancy might apply, the additional thirty‑five dollars – almost half the cost for four people – was unreasonable. The traditional dinner (casado) was very good, yet the prices were never displayed; at checkout we were charged 9,000 colones per meal and 4,500 colones for a side of rice with a few carrots, which was double the normal rate and far too high.
