“Beautiful gardens and lovely hotel.”

The hotel is lovely, and the gardens are beautiful, right by the river. The food is exceptionally good and most of the waitstaff are kind and helpful, and the cocktails are great; the lounges are very comfortable. When we arrived, we were told the en suite toilet was not working properly and needed repair, but because it was a weekend that couldn’t be fixed. We understood and used the toilet with a hold‑flush technique, which I didn’t always manage, so we used the downstairs toilets during the day. When we left I politely mentioned the issue and asked for a small discount for the inconvenience. An older woman at reception asked why we hadn’t mentioned it earlier, and she hurried off to get the restaurant manager, who was the only unfriendly person during our stay. He said he had a toilet at home that needed to hold the flush and that it wasn’t a problem; if it was I should have come to reception! He gave no apology and grumpily offered a small discount. I felt shocked by their rudeness and the total lack of apology, and it left me speechless. We were planning to stay again but won’t. It’s a shame because all the other staff, including the younger staff, those in the lounge, and the cleaners, were super helpful.
