“Very comfortable stay. Rooms could be updated a little.”
Friendly staff, a nice clean bar and restaurant area. Good food, especially breakfast. The room was a little tired. Broken bits and pieces were scattered around the place.

Excellent breakfast. Really good choices. Preferences were noted and served. Portions were very generous. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pub was well used by friendly local people, which is always a good sign. The superior double room needs some redecoration, but the on‑suite bathroom has already been done to a high standard.

If I had to say something, the breakfast was okay, but honestly the best thing about it… was leaving. When you’ve seen the below and if you’re reading this and thinking “oh heck I’ve booked, now what?” or “I was thinking of it, but erm…” See what they say. It’s going to be something along the lines of one of the following: (1) “yeah, we’re really really sorry, hands up, we’ve got problems all over the show, we’re out of our depth, we tried it on because we thought we could, but now we are so sorry and have learned lessons and will improve” OR (2) Lie, say “it’s all lies, we’re snow white here, and we’re glad you’re never coming back, pity you ever booked in the first place” OR (3) It’s “all a big misunderstanding, here’s all the totally innocent explanations” OR (4) No response. You the reader can then make your own mind up! Pre‑paid two rooms for an overnight stay here. High hopes for the advertised 4 Star experience. Arrived 9 pm as pre‑advised after a long drive. Checked in by a young girl working the bar, but found one of the rooms (ground floor) absolutely stinking of drains. Went to the bar to report and get the room swapped. The bar girl had to text the owner (who was not present) but the room was swapped to one on the first floor. Thinks oh well, they’ve gotta have known, but benefit of doubt, all sorted now. Went to have a drink in the bar, finished up, going to bed when the bar girl says I’ve had a text, there’s an additional charge for the room swap, it’s bigger!! What, because the one already paid for stunk to high heaven of drains, for real?!? Of course it’s 10 pm. Where are you going to go if you just walk out? And you’ve already paid best part of £200? Livid, but paid, anyway she’s just the messenger. Go up to the room, hear a beep, beep, beep from the stairwell… takes a look and the alarm panel’s carrying a fault light. Great. Goes in the room, see little insects teeming all around the shower drain. Sinking feeling. Gets up in the morning, see the woodwork’s shot in the windows, the car park’s full of potholes and a chunk of the boundary wall’s all down in a rubble pile! Erm hold on, this is AA 4 star, right? All over their stationery and listing? Had the breakfast, seemingly only breakfast staff about, and did what otherwise would have the night before and walked out and went. Still livid – been totally rinsed. Remember that AA 4 star? Contacted AA and guess what, nope not star rated by us! (of course it’s not, how could it be?) So owners can expect their solicitors calling, and if the words business misrepresentation and trademark infringement cause just a blank look and a shrug from these people they’d better get a crash course real quick before they’re up in court.

The spot is great, and the meals—both dinner and breakfast—were consistently superb. We always choose the Boot when we visit the area.
