“UN VERO PECCATO !”
We stayed two nights at the Before Hotel. The building is brand‑new, welcoming, and in a great spot in Nola. The rooms are spacious, and we really appreciated the parking (both outdoor and underground) and the lovely little outdoor pool. The front‑desk lady was very kind. One issue with the pool: the anti‑mosquito treatment needs improvement. I understand the rural setting, but in the hour we were outside mosquitoes were biting us; the front desk said treatments are done, but clearly they need to be intensified. The second‑day housekeeping was completely inadequate: the bathroom wasn’t cleaned, there were hairs everywhere, the shower was full of soap scum, shower curtains weren’t replaced, and the coffee set was neglected. They didn’t refill the pods, nor did they replace the single‑use cups and spoons. Since it’s a room with a kitchenette, we didn’t expect staff to touch our food: we left a cardboard box with leftover pizza on the kitchen counter and it was thrown away without asking. When we pointed this out, we were told that coffee isn’t restocked after the first day. As a frequent traveler in Italy and abroad, I’ve never seen such a situation: by hotel industry practice, every set of amenities is restocked each morning. If the hotel claims it was just a “welcome set,” I’d note that a welcome is arranged differently (perhaps at the entrance with a sign or special treats). Putting a machine with pods, spoons, and cups in the room and then abandoning it halfway through the stay makes no sense: the room is paid for in full and the services should cover the entire stay. If they can’t restore it, they should simply not provide it at all. To top it all off, after complaining about the discarded pizza (an economic loss caused by them), I expected not just formal apologies but some gesture of courtesy or customer care to make up for it. Instead, the cleaning manager first blamed the “short staff” and then left almost offended. That attitude is the opposite of hospitality.
