“Absolutely Disgusting – Worst Hostel Experience Ever”

The location is good, but that’s all. I’ve stayed in many hostels worldwide and know what to expect, yet this place was so filthy and poorly maintained that I couldn’t stay even a single night. I had to leave and book another hotel, costing me extra money. There were no bed sheets, a strong moldy smell in both the room and bathroom, and visible stains everywhere. The bathroom was clearly not cleaned—absolutely disgusting. The towel had someone else’s hair on it, and we even found empty water bottles under the bed, proving the room hadn’t been cleaned at all. It felt like a place that could easily have bed bugs. The walls are extremely thin— we could hear a woman talking loudly until 1:00 AM, and starting at 7:00 AM there were loud banging noises, like construction or repairs, that didn’t stop. Breakfast was laughable: a few pieces of toast, some cereal, and instant coffee. The staff was mostly absent and spoke very limited English. Good location, but that’s about it. Absolutely not worth the price. Avoid this place at all costs—I’ve never experienced anything this bad.

Staying at Mama Guesthouse in Myeongdong with Amm, Yabam, and Sirih was amazing. The location is absolutely perfect—just a few minutes’ walk from the Myeongdong shopping district and close to the subway, making it easy to explore all the major attractions in Seoul. The guesthouse itself is charming and cozy. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything you need for a pleasant stay. The beds were soft, and the amenities provided were more than adequate. The common areas are also a nice touch, offering a great place to relax and socialize with fellow travelers. The free breakfast was a nice bonus and a perfect start to the day. I highly recommend Mama Guesthouse Myeongdong to solo travelers or couples. Not recommended for those who travel with elderly and children. We have to walk a little bit, but that’s South Korea; most people walk.

“왠만하면 가지마세요...”

Two Chinese staff members were completely friendly, spoke good English, and tried to actively solve any room problems. However, the originally booked room had cold water this winter; the floor boiler was not working at all, so I had to stay in a cold floor room with the heater on. The floor was not vacuumed; there were many hairs on it. The room was dirty and uncleaned, and the fridge contained a leftover bottle from the previous guest. The towels in the bathroom were torn and dirty. The bedding had a torn blanket that wasn’t even tied up. The shared kitchen was completely filthy, with all the trash out. The new room had peeling wallpaper, bugs, and a lot of floor dust, so I ended up wearing slippers. By the way, breakfast was supposed to be included for our four people, but there was no ramen for us; only toast, very little milk, and jam. The spoons and spreads were all dirty, so I had to wash them myself. The photos look decent, but in reality it’s a waste of money. The owner has no conscience! Invest in the facilities. It’s close to the city, so at least keep it clean. At least there were no cockroaches, but I caught three spiders!

Breakfast was too good, but the place was very small and full of people staying outside. There was no air conditioning inside my room, so it was very hot. The outside is very cool, but inside the room is very hot.
