The hosts Satoru & Tae were as warm and hospitable as any Japanese friends I know, attentive and adorable. The little villa they built over many years reflects their lifestyle and cultural taste in every room, and my family loved it. The villa sits at the foot of Mount Yotei, and from every floor‑to‑ceiling window we could see the mountain’s beauty. The second‑floor lounge was our favorite spot; the huge windows blended indoors and outdoors, the warm fireplace, and the large solid‑wood table and chairs felt like home. The hosts’ coffee and breakfast were also fantastic, and they let us taste eggs from chickens they raise in their yard. The villa’s location is ideal, close to a supermarket and near the ski resorts, so my family praised the week we spent in Niseko. We’ll choose this place again next time we ski in Niseko. We found no unsatisfactory aspects.

I’ve stayed in many places in Hokkaido, and Gurugulu is by far the best. The space is amazing, very warm and welcoming, and the friendly couple running the lodge are incredible. The scenery is peaceful and beautiful.

Satoru and Tae San were excellent hosts and very hospitable, truly making us feel at home. When we asked where to store our snow equipment, Satoru kindly set up a rack outside overnight. Both of them joined us for dinner one night, which helped us feel totally at ease. Gurugulu was a haven of tranquility with a fantastic view of Mt Yotei, suitable for a family or a group of friends. I will definitely recommend it to all my friends and family. The downside of the tranquility is that there is a bit of driving required, so anyone planning to stay at Gurugulu must factor in a car.

“Magical accommodation with a beautiful view of Mount Yotei and wonderful hosts!”

Everything was perfect! The location was ideal for driving to all the resorts we wanted to visit, yet close enough to Kutchan and Niseko for a short drive to ski and eat. The accommodation was impeccably clean and really large, with plenty of space for seven adults and great facilities like a kitchen downstairs. The hosts were amazing, always on hand to help and answer any questions. We opted in for breakfast a couple of mornings and dinner, both of which were delicious and very good value for money. We wish we could have stayed longer to take advantage of other activities like snow shows. Nothing negative.
