“Excellent cultural experience!”

Staying at Fudo‑in was truly exceptional and unforgettable. It’s rare to experience Buddhist monks’ hospitality, taste their meals, and join in sutra chanting. The room was spacious and spotless, with a main area that had a table and welcome tea, a small extra room with a wardrobe and table, and a private toilet. Futon mattresses were very comfortable and warm. We also used the public bath, which was very clean and relaxing. Vegetarian meals were delicious, offering many different dishes. Dining there was an experience in itself and a highlight of our visit. The monks were kind and helpful, and we felt comfortable throughout. I highly recommend Fudo‑in for anyone seeking an authentic, peaceful, and truly special cultural experience—it was more than just a place to sleep. Everything was wonderful, and we wouldn’t change a thing! Just remember the property closes at 9 p.m., and breakfast and morning prayers start early, at 7 a.m. These details are clearly communicated in advance, so you know exactly what to expect and can plan accordingly.

“Fantastic Shuukubo”

The Shukubo was fantastic, surrounded by tradition, within walking distance of everything, with great staff, and waking early to join the morning prayers added to the experience; no issues.

The dinner and breakfast were fantastic, the rooms were large and great, and meditating and praying with the monks was a beautiful experience, though the blanket smelled very musty because it wasn’t fully covered with a sheet, making the night somewhat uncomfortable.
