It’s within walking distance of most attractions in Nikko, but it’s very expensive for what you get. The onsen forbids even the smallest tattoos and also does not allow entry when the tattoo is covered.

The onsen is wonderful. We women were allowed to choose a yukata and were given instructions on how to wear it properly and how to use the onsen. Staying on futons was a unique experience and we slept very well. The view was amazing and the hotel looks much nicer than the pictures suggest. We had two beautiful days and would love to come back anytime.

We stayed at Nikko Senhime Monogatari and it was a fantastic experience; the spot is perfect for reaching shrines and public transport. Our room was a traditional tatami mat room, which felt lovely, and the onsite breakfast and dinner were unique, giving us a full traditional experience 😊. The only downside was that the room felt quite warm, though it cooled down by morning.

The location near the shrines was excellent, the staff were great and the food was good. It felt a bit outdated and there was no air‑conditioning.
