“Disappointing overall, unfortunately.”
We liked that the Dene Rooms sat in a great spot, had good parking, and seemed well run, so if we had stayed in our original room or had been moved to a room of similar quality, the Dene Rooms could have delivered a comfortable, good‑value stay overall. When we first arrived in our top‑floor room at the Dene Rooms, we were pleasantly surprised: it was clean, spacious, airy, the bathroom was tidy, and it even had a big TV – perfect for the three of us (two adults and one teenager). However, we were told the single bed we’d ordered was faulty, so we were moved to another room on the floor below. That didn’t bother us until we saw the new room. What a downgrade – and for the same price! The room was cramped and dingy, a real squeeze for a family of three, the TV was about the size of a small computer monitor, and there were dirty clothes left in the bottom of the wardrobe, presumably from a previous guest. The bathroom’s extractor fan sounded like a tractor and wouldn’t turn off for a full half‑hour after we’d switched off the light. So when we went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, we had to navigate by the torch on our phones instead of the light – a bit of a hassle, but better than the noisy fan. We understand a comparable room might not have been available, but the room we were reassigned to was still a real downgrade and ultimately left us disappointed.
