The simplicity and Beatriz’s hospitality made us feel at home in a hilltop in Alentejo. Incredible!

Peace and tranquility, fantastic hoist & excellent locally/home sourced foods. We didn't stay long enough to fully enjoy what we liked.

When we visit Portugal, we try to get up to Castro Verde for a night stay in a local hotel with a pool for bird and wildlife watching, but this time all were booked, so we opted for this delightful home from home, rustic and traditional stay; we are so pleased we did. Monte Dos Pacos – Is set on a 1 Hectar farm in the middle of the Alentejo, Portugal, 11km north of Castro Verde, just off the N2. This wonderful family have a create a little piece of Portuguese bliss on their homestead, with a low level, unobtrusive, compact 6‑bedroom hotel (Max 12 guests). An extra single bed can be added to the bigger rooms of required It has a sitting/dining/bar area with an outside pool and another bar area and plenty of parking. The pool was a great place to cool off from the 36‑degree heat after an early morning start, bird and wildlife photography in known locations. Both Great Bustard and Griffon Vulture nailed amongst the usual mix of Alentejo bird life. We were met by the delightful and welcoming Beatrice, who along with her husband and 2 sons manage this homestead. Do not expect luxury, do not expect gleaming white marbled floors and gold dripping from the chandeliers, but you will get a down to earth honest and homely charm of a hard‑working family who thrive on the joy of hospitality, especially Beatrice. She is also the cook (we’ll come to her later). The grounds around the pool are lawned, with loungers for all and plenty of shade to get out of the sun. The pool bar is through a door and a cooler area, where you can enjoy a pint of Spanish beer, a bottle of cider, your favourite spirit, soft drinks or just a good cup of tear or pot of coffee, the choice is yours. Although we didn’t eat from the pool bar, 2 local lads (they do allow locals to use the pool area, both respecting our peace and quiet) ordered a Beef burger, and it was huge, looked excellent and from the umm’s coming from the boys, it was tasty too. Nothing, you'll have to be a picky customer to not like it.

The room was huge, the pool was amazing, the bathroom was top. Prices were a bit high.
