Locanda Mulino del Barone by VM, perched in Val Fondillo, blends rustic charm with modern comfort. Private rooms feature en‑suite bathrooms, bidets, and panoramic garden or mountain views. The on‑site restaurant offers authentic Italian cuisine, including special‑diet menus, while a cozy bar and coffee shop provide relaxed social spaces. Located just 9 km from Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo, the hotel offers easy access to skiing, hiking, and cycling adventures.

The place sits right on the edge of the park, so you can hit the trails straight away. The room feels cozy, the shower supplies hot water, and the beds are comfortable. Downstairs there's a small bar area where breakfast is served. The owner bakes amazing croissants and offers other local pastries, and the coffee is very good. I wish the breakfast had been more balanced than just pastries, but it was free and tasty. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay!

The location is amazing, right by the river, the room was very clean and the morning Italian coffee was nice, though the breakfast could be improved.

The place is spectacular with beautiful spots for nature lovers, but there are few shops for groceries and meals, and unfortunately I was moved to another property after a confirmed booking – the first time this has happened with booking, and I’m sorry.

The hotel sits ideally at the mouth of Val Fondillo in the heart of PNALM, making it a great base for exploring villages like Opi, Villetta Barrea and Civitella Alfedena within 10‑15 minutes by car; the accommodation is basic but very clean and comfortable. However, there is no permanent staff and check‑in happens at a nearby camping a few hundred metres away, and the main drawback for trekkers is the breakfast starting at 8:00, which is too late for those who want to be up at dawn; the owner was very kind and brought breakfast to the room, and adding a coffee machine in the room would be a good idea for early starters.
