“Great budget stay between the stupa and bus terminal, with a beautiful family”

The hosts were amazing! Such a sweet family! They genuinely care about their customers' comfort and satisfaction. The budget room was clean and spacious, with drinking water and good WiFi available. The neighborhood seemed really safe and was centrally located: just a twenty‑minute walk from the bus station or a twenty‑minute walk to the famous stupa and Buddha statue. We would have liked a mosquito net over the bed, and although we felt very safe, future guests will appreciate a front door that can be locked from the outside.

The staff were very nice, but they didn’t speak English at all. The bed was large. Unfortunately, despite the friendly staff, there are many problems with this place. The location is in a small village, which could be nice, but barking dogs, noisy locals, and constantly running tuk‑tuks make it hard to relax. The worst thing was that I had a dog living above me in a suspended ceiling—luckily, I managed to kick her out. The bathroom can hardly be called a bathroom: no towel, no toilet paper, not even warm water. And as for “extra attractions” — plenty of frogs, mosquitoes, cockroaches, bacteria, and mould. Anyway, I can recommend it. You won't see anything like that very often. An authentic Sri Lankan village stay.

This guesthouse, run by a couple, sits roughly 1 km from the bus station. After checking in I discovered they operate two separate buildings; the newer one looks decent, but I was lodged in the older structure. The room is very basic, somewhat clean, yet quite dated. There’s no Wi‑Fi, the room stays warm and hot without air conditioning, and the shower only supplies cold water. The electric fan is noisy, and occasionally bugs drift in from outside, though they do provide mosquito coils. For such a low price, this is probably what you get. The couple is friendly and kind, clearly good people, and they even helped me receive my courier delivery.

I had an extra special stay. Iresha, her husband, and their baby were very welcoming and smiling, giving me a warm reception. I felt at home. The room was immaculate. The place is near a beautiful lake that Iresha recommended. They treated me like friends; thank you very much, you’re great and I’ll return!

The owners are very nice, and the room was fine for one night, but my biggest drawback was the lack of mosquito nets on any openings or over the bed, so I had to battle mosquitoes until 11 pm. No hot shower, but that was okay for me; I suggested to the owner that mosquito nets be added.
