“Amazing staff, but unfortunately the resort itself didn’t meet our expectations for a family island”
We stayed at Rebak Island Resort as a family travelling with our little one. Overall, there were some things we really appreciated, but unfortunately the resort itself didn’t meet our expectations of a tropical island getaway. What we liked: The staff were amazing — very friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We were travelling with little one, and it was especially lovely to see how warmly the staff interacted with her. They were always smiling, talking to her and making her feel special, which was very cute and something we really appreciated as parents. The breakfast was very good, housekeeping was excellent, our room was kept clean, and the beds were comfortable. We also enjoyed the buffet dinner that was offered one evening. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend it to friends looking for a family island resort. Our biggest disappointment was the beach and water. The water is very murky and mangrove-like, so unfortunately this isn’t a place where you can really snorkel or enjoy that clear tropical island water we had expected. The beach area is also quite small. The resort facilities generally felt quite old and tired, and there was surprisingly little for children to do. The kids’ room is very small, there were no pool toys, and there wasn’t really an activity or entertainment program. Because Rebak is an isolated island, we expected there to be more happening at the resort, particularly for families. At other island resorts we have visited in Asia, there are usually activities, games, evening shows or some kind of entertainment program, especially because guests can’t simply walk outside the resort and find other things to do. There was a movie night on Thursday, but it started at 9 p.m., which we felt was far too late for families with young children. By that time our daughter was already asleep, and even for older children it means the movie finishes very late. There was also a buffet dinner one evening, which was good, but we wouldn’t really consider dinner itself to be entertainment. We were also surprised that activities such as kayaks and bicycles cost extra. On an isolated island resort, we felt that at least some simple recreational activities like these should be included for guests. Another thing we didn’t expect was that the property feels more like a marina hub with a resort attached to it rather than a secluded island resort. There are many boats using the marina, and marina visitors use facilities such as the laundry and toilets. The marina side actually seemed much more active than the resort itself
