The breakfast spread was definitely the highlight – tasty and plentiful. My room was up on the top floor, but the ceiling was so low I kept bumping into it, which made moving around a hassle. On top of that, they seem to add extra fees for things you’d normally expect to be included.

The old building sits on a dead‑quiet street, no cars at all, and it’s just steps from the city centre, the cable car, the theatre and three museums – super convenient. They also offer a solid range of services: breakfast, tours, laundry, long‑term luggage storage, and the front desk staff were genuinely friendly and efficient (big shout‑out to Yess and the morning breakfast crew). The only thing that would make the rooms better is a portable heater, even if you have to pay for it.

The room let in a lot of natural light and the shower had excellent pressure and temperature, which was a nice way to start the day. Unfortunately there was no heating option, so it got pretty chilly at night – the bedding kept me warm enough though. Breakfast was just okay, pretty basic, and I didn’t feel it added much value given the cheap eateries nearby.

Anata Hostel quickly became my favourite spot in Bolivia – I felt right at home from the moment I walked in. My room was comfy and the little balcony overlooking Calle Jaén was a nice touch, plus the location made it easy to explore the city. What really set it apart was the staff, especially Jess, who was always there to answer questions, suggest activities and help organise my itinerary.
