“Lovely setting....shame about the rest, grubby, scruffy and in need of refurb.”

The setting and location were lovely, and the woodlands around the lodges offered peaceful trails that we enjoyed walking. The cabins were generally well‑equipped in the kitchen area. However, the facilities were awful: all playground gear in the woods was rotten and unusable, some outdoor structures like the golf and playground had collapsed completely. Cabins felt grubby, the indoor pool was shocking—dirty changing rooms, paint peeling off the pool, like a 1960s swimming pool. Indoor amenities were a waste of time; the indoor golf was pathetic, no ping‑pong table, everything was ripped, grubby, unsanitary, and dated. We did play tennis and rackets were provided, but the facilities desperately need an overhaul. It was a joke. A farm area was promised but only a few chickens existed, and there were no bins around the grounds—cans and wrappers littered reception and near the tennis courts—resulting in a grubby, desperate entertainment area that urgently needs massive refurbishment.

“Good value, clean, comfortable, needs some refurbishment, but fine!”

The place was super cute, full of happy holiday makers wandering around, and the woodland location was lovely. We were upgraded to a property with a hot tub, which was great; the beds were comfortable, the place was clean, and it had everything we needed. Staff were lovely and the hot tub was checked daily. We didn’t use the pool (which looks clean but needs refurbishing) or sports facilities, but the site offers some nice activities. We didn’t visit the animal corner because we don’t like petting zoos, and there’s a pizza truck but no vegan options. Parts are tired: the toilet seat was broken (we fixed it ourselves since we’re handy) and the clasp that holds the shower head is broken (still usable). These are things the cleaning team would have spotted, so it’s either a sloppy cleaning crew not reporting issues or a sloppy maintenance team not fixing things. The accommodation itself was fine for our needs and nothing like the negative reviews I’d read. I paid about £400 for a 3‑night weekend in August, which felt good value for the standard, while the same dates next year are closer to £600, which made me think twice.

Everything about this place was brilliant, except there was no regular cleaning of the hot tub and no extra towels.

Nothing positive. Money needs to be spent maintaining grounds, pool, hot tub, and play areas that are falling apart; staff morale is very low. The staff failed to act on a complaint about antisocial behaviour before it escalated and required police involvement.

The site was peaceful, with play areas where kids could let loose. The staff were unbelievably helpful, and there were pleasant walks nearby and an excellent abbey. My youngest also enjoyed the animal area and even said, “If we lived here I would never want to go on holiday.” There was nothing to dislike.
