My husband and I spent eight nights at Amalen for our honeymoon and it was the absolute best experience! The hotel itself is small, quaint, yet luxurious. We stayed in room 2 and loved sitting out at our private pool during the day. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the dim lighting throughout the room was very relaxing. The hotel arranged comfortable rides to and from the airport, making arrival and departure stress‑free. The daily breakfast was perhaps the best part: we were served generous portions of traditional Greek breakfast items that changed each day. They asked for our preferences and were happy to accommodate any requests (we were more than satisfied with what we were served). The main staff member – I think his name is Iakovos – was exceptional! He checked in on us frequently and wanted to ensure we had the best experience possible. On days we missed breakfast because of other planned activities, he brought us breakfast boxes the night before so we’d have something to eat the next morning. The hotel sits right at the edge of the Old Town area, making walking super feasible. We didn’t rent a car but felt we had plenty of places to see, eat, and enjoy within walking distance. We explored the Fortezza, which is just down the road from the hotel, and we could easily walk to the beach stretch to rent chairs for the day. If we ever return to Crete, we would definitely go back to Amalen Suites for another stay. I’ll say that if we returned for another extended stay, we’d be interested in trying one of the upper rooms, as I understand they’re a bit roomier and the pools are heated. However, our first‑floor room was still one of the nicest places we’ve stayed on vacation. If you’re looking for accommodations in Crete, look no further!
