The neighborhood was quiet, close to the beach and a scuba diving shop, but the room name said balcony and view, which was why I booked it; I had no view from my level, so the name and the old pictures need to be updated to reflect the current condition.

“Einfach traumhaft!”

The homestay was cozy with a small terrace and seating right in front of the nice room. A little garden with benches and tables was outside the house. The bed was comfortable, but the blanket was just a single plush sheet—maybe a point could be deducted for that. Luckily we brought lightweight sleeping bags, which worked well for us. The room and bathroom were very clean. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. The location is great, about 100 m to the small beach. From there you can dive and snorkel in the old harbor pool; all gear, including flip‑flops (there are sea urchins!), can be borrowed for free at the homestay. The first time we dove, we saw a few large sea turtles grazing! Tip: it’s best to rent a scooter upon arrival on the island, otherwise you hardly get to the homestay. An international driver’s licence is required. Alternatively, there are e‑bike rentals. If I ever come back to Xiaoliuqiu, I’ll definitely stay here again. The only downside is that a thin sheet as a blanket would be nice.

“Disappointed and way too expensive for what you get”

The apartment's location is great, but the sea view from my room was a bit of a letdown. The owner didn't even try to communicate with us, which was a bit weird since he didn't speak a word of English. The bathroom was also a mess, which was a major turnoff.
