Mooiplaas Guesthouse is a luxury guest house situated on a working ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn, 11 km from the town center. This owner-managed property offers Swartberg Mountains views, an outdoor pool, and on-site spa. Individually-decorated rooms feature en suite bathrooms and free WiFi. Guests enjoy a private farm tour, hiking, and mountain bike hire, as well as a private patio with barbecue area and pool.

We could see Oudtshoorn from the rooms, toured an ostrich farm where we saw freshly hatched chicks, and the property felt safe and secure; the rooms were excellent and the staff added an extra bed so all my kids slept together instead of being split up. Everyone was helpful and attentive, making the visit very enjoyable. The only downside was that the pool wasn’t heated, but my family didn’t mind, even though we couldn’t stay in it for long.

This is our third time staying at Mooiplaas, and it’s excellent in every way; we’ve already booked again for August.

The managers were friendly and the paid farm tour was fun. The Wi‑Fi was terrible, with multiple channels; our room kept switching between them, dropping the connection and forcing us to reconnect repeatedly. The restaurant was very uncomfortable in the cooler weather—we were there at the end of April. We sat in a glass enclosure with other Dutch guests, and the menu was pricey. The location is also quite far from the center, about 15 minutes to other restaurants. The pool looked unclean at the end of April. Floor tiles in the room had cockpit spray that looked like it had been sprayed in, and we slipped in our room, with all the dust and dirt from our shoes immediately showing on the tiles.

“Superman” John provided dedicated, friendly service that made the stay memorable. The hotel is out of town but still close; the room was spacious and neat, offering good views.
