“Had been twice before but the problems in the bar/restaurant spoilt an otherwise nice stay.”
We skipped breakfast because we were meeting people for lunch elsewhere. The room was fine, generally clean, and the overall ambience was good. The location, just off the A1, was convenient and we received free parking. The bar and its restaurant felt very disorganised, with long waits for food. We were told there were no lemon or lime slices for our G&T, but later someone else managed to find or make some. At dinner, the red wine we wanted was unavailable, and other options had no full bottles; we ended up with a Malbec. The bottle had a cork, and there seemed to be a problem getting it out. It was eventually brought to our table wrapped in a napkin and poured into our glasses. When the bottle was left with us and the napkin removed, we noticed that about three quarters of the cork was floating in the wine—apparently the cork had broken off and was pushed into the wine. There were many cork bits in our glasses. I asked for a replacement bottle, but they didn’t have another full one. We eventually got a screw‑top wine, but it was hard to believe a bar/restaurant could be so understocked. The food was okay, but two main dishes—Mixed Grill and Steak—had been crossed off the menu in felt tip pen. The cooked vegetables were virtually inedible; the salad, chips, and pie were fine, but the broccoli was rubbery and the peas were dry and overcooked.
