The view is truly wonderful. We stayed in a suite that was very spacious with a small balcony, a nice shower/WC and a large bed. The mattress was very hard, but that could be changed. The pool is also very nice. Unfortunately there is no outdoor shower for before or after swimming. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Thanks a lot to Andrea. The food was excellent except for the mussels. The outdoor shower, no kettle in the room, and the food prices were relatively high, and the 23 % tax was not shown on the menu; that was a surprise when we paid on the last day. We’ve never had that in Costa Rica and were quite disappointed.

We loved our stay at El Castillo; the service was flawless, the food tasty, and the room felt luxurious. We ate most meals there. Breakfast had coffee, fresh tropical juice, fresh fruit, and a choice of entree. We enjoyed lounging by the pool, relaxing and unwinding. Parking is tight, as in most places in Costa Rica, but the staff were very helpful. The road up to the hotel is steep and hard‑packed dirt/gravel; it’s been well maintained, we had no trouble driving it and saw no potholes.
