I stayed in my favorite room that had an outdoor hot spring in the garden, and the room itself was still wonderful. I could enjoy the onsen. When I visited after a long time, most of the staff were foreigners. That isn’t a bad thing, but I felt their training was lacking. They were polite when showing me the room, but a few staff I met at the entrance didn’t bow properly and looked sloppy. They explained the meals, but then seemed to forget and said, “This is a mix of 〇〇 and △△.” Even though it’s a decent inn, the back‑yard staff’s language was not very good, which was disappointing.

The ryokan was truly exceptional and upscale; the sushi kaiseiki dinner on our second night was the highlight. The large room had comfortable beds, a private bath, and good air‑conditioning. The atmosphere was tranquil and serene, and the staff were super friendly.

Yakakutei ranks among the most gorgeous onsen ryokans we’ve visited. We stayed in a Japanese‑style garden unit that had its own outdoor plunge pool and an indoor hot tub. The room was beautiful in traditional style with flawless craftsmanship, and the garden was lovely with meticulous landscaping. Over three nights we had three distinct Japanese dinners featuring local Kyushu ingredients, one of which was a private sushi omakase with our own chef. Unlike most ryokans, Yakakutei employs a team of young international staff from various Asian countries. A special shout‑out to Mo from Myanmar, who cared for us from check‑in through all our dinners.

The facilities were clean and newly renovated. The only downside was that there was no family bath.
