Breakfast wasn’t overwhelming but it was filling; from the parking you could see a nice view of Karlovy Vary. The pool area was spacious and the separate toilet and bathing area was a nice touch. The décor felt a bit rustic, with an old-fashioned day blanket that people are used to avoiding, curtains that hang loosely, and shower curtains over the tub that look outdated. Door locks should be checked for proper function. It’s normal for small animals to escape through open windows, but cleaning staff should be more careful to avoid leaving dead critters in the room. The breakfast area had worn tablecloths, torn bathrobes, and towels in the spa that were unacceptable for a 4‑star hotel. The staff in the breakfast room looked like they’d been through three days of rain. Tables weren’t freshly set, and you could see what guests had eaten before. Renovations happening while the hotel is still open isn’t necessarily bad, but if a hotel has two reception areas, guests should be able to reach the upper reception within the closed hotel area rather than via a side path that feels like a hundred steps with luggage.

The complex consists of several interconnected buildings that share a SPA and a breakfast/restaurant (we stayed in the PALACE, one of the very beautiful historic structures). The SPA is lovely, with towels distributed daily, and the hotel’s garden area is pleasant, quiet, and relaxed in August for five nights. You can quickly walk to the great city (about 10 minutes on foot or via various elevators down into the city in 5 minutes). The fitness room is well equipped and larger than expected, which we enjoyed. Thanks to the very high rooms and the mountain location, it stays relatively comfortable even at high temperatures (we experienced 33 °C days) in the rooms. The hotel is clean and well maintained. The bathroom fixtures in the rooms are fine but not up to date.

The walk to the city center was quick, but the room turned out to be different from what I booked, and there was no toilet paper upon arrival. Every day I had to reactivate the key card, and no German‑speaking staff were available.

The hotel sits in a gorgeous neighborhood, and next to it a beer garden invites you to stay awhile, with occasional live singing and dancing. The pool was the highlight, and the reception welcomed us warmly. However, the breakfast staff were partly subtly aggressive and rude, especially one older employee, which nearly ruined our vacation mornings. There were also no diet options at the buffet, despite me having mentioned this beforehand, and overall the negative vibe seemed to spread to many guests.
