The apartment was very good, well equipped, and well located. The living room had no air conditioning, which I didn’t anticipate and was a big disappointment. The balcony was huge and well furnished, but unusable because it was unbearably hot; air conditioning is essential there, and if they installed a glass curtain and climate control it would be much more enjoyable. The cleaning service was terrible—nothing was cleaned, only the towels were changed. I still had to request and never received replacement bath towels or bath mats. The resort staff were willing but poorly informed about what the resort offers, which could improve a lot. The pool was under renovation; we only saw one, and the staff didn’t know if there were others or could point us to the spa and sauna. The restaurants were very good.

It was a paradise to sleep there, truly luxurious, and in a word, fantastic.

We stayed in the seaview suite and the room is gorgeous. The view is stunning, the décor is stylish, and the turndown service is nice. We also get plenty of towels in the room. The service doesn’t match the price and the air conditioning never cools, even after maintenance supposedly fixed it. We asked a few things via WhatsApp, but the replies were either late or nonexistent, making it feel very impersonal—something that was not the case at Kontiki. It was our honeymoon and we stayed at three hotels; this was the most expensive but the only one with zero attention. At reception we were told we’d get beach towels, but at the VIP area they still asked for a card that turned out to be unnecessary. There are separate parking spots for these suites, but they were often full, so we had to walk a long way to the general parking. We won’t go back; with proper air conditioning it could be a 5* hotel, but the service level is more like a 3*.

The hotel is beautifully situated among tropical vegetation, with a lovely beach, and the staff are helpful. Before arriving at Kontiki, be aware of the $150 security deposit required at check‑in, which was a surprise since it wasn’t mentioned when booking. The hotel’s refund policy is odd; I was told to wait 20 days. Also, the surrounding area can be dangerous at night, even near the casino—young people on bicycles spat at us and threw stones. If not for casino security, things could have been worse. It’s not the hotel’s fault, but since we like walking, we felt trapped, like in a hotel in Egypt.

The lagoons between the buildings are very beautiful, but during the three weeks we stayed, they were empty several times. The bedding is good. There is a lot of noise, and the room was always missing something (towels, milk, etc.). The bed sheets were not the right length for the bed, the outdoor chair was very dirty (the sheet on it was never changed), and it was impossible to get just a croissant and coffee at breakfast, which is otherwise very expensive for the quality.
