The couple who run the ryokan are lovely, always on hand to help when we struggled with the AC or needed coins for laundry, and they even slipped us snacks—such a nice touch! The ryokan sits in a quiet Nezu neighborhood, close to both Nezu and Ueno stations and convenience stores, making it a superb spot. The building’s washer/dryer is handy, though it only operates from 8 am to 9 pm. I’d definitely recommend it if you want easy train access and a quieter side of Tokyo. We stayed in a private‑bathroom room, which was great; the bathroom is a bit small—only one person at a time—but it has everything you need.

Staying at this authentic Ryokan was a good experience overall. My partner and I are both over 6 ft, so we needed an extra bed and ended up sleeping on a double plus a single perpendicular to the usual layout. It worked, but it might not be ideal for tall people. It wasn’t the accommodation’s fault—we booked for three beds knowing our size, but the host set it up as a double for two and only added the third bed when we asked.

The location was great, and the staff were very helpful and friendly, going above and beyond our expectations. The room felt a bit crowded for four people plus a baby, and the narrow, steep staircase up to the rooms required caution.
