It wasn’t a stay at all; it was a ruined trip and an unpleasant surprise from the people running the HVD Viva Club hotel. With less than 48 hours to go, our bags ready (thankfully I checked my own Booking account), I saw a message saying, “due to optimization of bookings, I am offering accommodation at the 5‑star Riviera HVD hotel…” and that I had to respond whether I agreed to the relocation or I would be turned away. I replied that I did not agree (I had a reservation from February 2026) and it was a hotel below what I had booked. The average ratings were 9 versus 8.2 and others… (please read the Riviera reviews) – no 5‑star (4‑star) conditions. They ignored my reply and sent another message telling me more directly that they couldn’t accommodate me. I don’t want to detail the emotions I went through; after many interventions with Booking, I received my money back after a few days, but I got about 150 lei less (excluding foreign‑exchange fees) than I was charged. After all that, I never received any proper apologies from either the hotel or Booking for the situation they put me in. Shame!
