Royal Oak Hotel, Garstang

We liked the hotel, the staff were friendly, the food was amazing, and breakfast was lovely, though it felt a bit rushed when the staff in the dining room started clearing tables; there were no bowls for cereal and I didn’t feel comfortable asking for one. We had stayed at the inn a few years earlier, walked around Garstang to a few pubs, but they were so busy we returned to the inn, which was very quiet; I love it, but I don’t think we’ll come back.

“Town centre gem.”

The room was clean, thoughtfully prepared, nice and quiet. The pub was good with great food and a relaxed vibe, the staff were very friendly, and the location was super in the centre of town with easy parking. All good.

Breakfast had a very poor selection. The location was ideal in the centre of town. The hotel feels very tired and needs decoration. The room: we paid for a superior room, it was clean but the decor was dull and it lacked surface areas for books and toiletries; the tiny shelves on either side of the bed were totally inadequate. The bathroom was cramped, only a shower and a washbasin dispenser; in a superior room I would expect more toiletries and a larger shelf that could hold two soap bags. Overall it was a complete waste of the extra money I paid for a so‑called “superior” room, and I will not use this hotel again.

The room was tiny, the single beds were cramped, and I had to force the sliding sash window open to get any air; the TV was a joke, tiny and ancient. As above, I didn’t like anything about the room.

“Enjoyable stay.”

Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. The evening meal was very good.
