“I had a pleasant stay at the Crags Hotel in Callander”
The central location and bar allowed me to relax and chat with other guests, but it felt more like a bar/restaurant than a hotel; I had to walk past both to reach my room, which was unusual. The bathroom needed some TLC.
“Crag hotel Callandar”
The hotel sits on a main street, making it easy to stroll to shops and cafés, and there was Wi‑Fi available once I asked for it. The room was located at the back of the building, behind the restaurant, so I had to walk through diners to enter or exit. It wasn’t very clean; I found several spiders and webs, the mattress was hard, lumpy, and clearly old, the large TV had a weak signal, and the bedside lamps were too big for the space and difficult to turn on in the dark.
“Very nice and kind staff great Indian restaurant”
The entire staff were incredibly kind, especially the bar and restaurant crew who were very friendly, and the food was lovely. The bed was acceptable and the shower was great, though I had to crank it up to full and change the sprinkler. The building is obviously old and could use a full refurbishment, especially the hall upstairs and the bedrooms. The bathroom had mold in the shower, which is an easy fix, and there was a hole in the sheet on my bed, but that didn’t bother me. The price of £126 for one night is not worth it; I would pay maybe £50‑£70 a night, but that’s just my opinion. I’m not planning to stay there again, but overall I think it could be a successful hotel/Indian restaurant.
“Carino ma...”
I was drawn to the hotel by its convenient location and the appealing Indian restaurant on the lower floor. However, the building felt a bit dated, the bathroom was tiny, and the room door didn’t latch properly. One morning, my partner lost his room key while shopping at the supermarket right across the street; we couldn’t find it even after asking the staff, so we assumed someone had picked it up. We called the owner to explain the situation and apologize, but he told us he had no spare key—an absurd claim—and that we should leave £25 with the service lady for a locksmith, even though he wasn’t present. We only had £30, received no change or receipt, and the whole ordeal felt rude, especially after spending a lot on dinner at his restaurant the night before.
“Never be back again!”
The only thing I liked about Callander was its charm. The room was filthy, with cigarette smells and dust, and the bed was dirty too. While my partner was leaving the room to go downstairs, he sliced his hand on protruding banister screws. The carpets were in bad shape and needed a thorough cleaning. I wouldn’t even recommend this hotel to my worst enemy.
