Even though I booked through Booking, the hotel couldn’t locate my reservation at first, then suddenly found two guests in the system. After about 15 minutes and my confirmation, it finally worked for the third guest. I had to wait almost an hour to check in—unacceptable.

The staff were very friendly, the restaurant cozy with good food, and the location is great. I would have liked some vegetables (e.g. tomatoes, cucumber) and plain yogurt at breakfast.

The hotel sits just across the train station, and I was able to drop my luggage there before the official check‑in time after arriving early in the morning. However, even though I had completed the online check‑in, I still had to fill out a paper form at the front desk, and the staff member didn’t speak English well, which made communication difficult.

The breakfast was good and quite generous, with fresh fruit, cheese, yogurt, etc. The offered coffee was very good and could be freshly brewed from the machine: traditional romande! . or “swissness” indeed (not just pot coffee, as often experienced in comparable German hotels). Perhaps offering 3‑minute eggs, scrambled eggs, or coffee cream (for German readers “Kaffeesahne”) would be the finishing touch. Fresh, hot milk from the kettle was available. We liked it. The. Payerne is in an area where large‑scale tobacco was once grown (BAT/Burrus, etc.). That night, the ventilation from the “fumoir” on the ground floor delivered a dose of “cold smoke” through the open roof skylight/tilt‑up windows! Initially we suspected the bed, bed frame, and surrounding walls, but that was a complete misjudgment: strict non‑smoking is enforced in the rooms… except in the “fumoir” on the ground floor, and the rooms were absolutely clean in that regard.
