The staff were super friendly and we were able to get by with a mix of Japanese and English.
The food was incredible - dinner and breakfast were both highlights.
The private onsen was scorching hot and totally did the trick.
A perfect spot for a special one-night stay.

“Must try experience”
This ryokan is a gem, the private bath in the outside garden was amazing, the food was great, and the staff are super cute and accommodating.
“Japanese food is so much more than sushi, miso soup and tempera prawns.”
The food and service were outstanding, the Unzen was cozy and very relaxing, and we highly recommend a visit to the Yayanoyu. The private washroom was a bit tight but manageable; after all, who spends time in the washroom when you have your own private unzen.
The rooms with private onsen were extraordinary - and the meals were just as impressive. That being said, the garden around the onsen could use a bit more TLC.
“A hidden gem of a ryokan tucked away in a peaceful rural setting.”
Ryokan Yayanoyu is truly a hidden gem; the staff were very helpful and did everything to make our stay comfortable. They offered a variety of amenities. The rooms were very large and the private onsen attached to the room was perfect for soaking. The highlight was the kaiseki dinner and breakfast provided by the ryokan, and the excellent food rounded off an ideal ryokan experience. Nothing comes to mind as a negative; we just wish we had booked a longer stay.
“Unforgettable experience, delicious food and lovely staff”
This ryokan was a dream from start to finish. The staff were super friendly and we were able to get by with a mix of Japanese and English. The food was incredible - dinner and breakfast were both highlights. We also loved our private onsen experience and the fact that they provided yukata and toiletries. What really stood out, though, was when we forgot a shirt in the room and had to rush off to catch the bus; the staff drove after us to return it, which was so thoughtful.
