Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort, the island’s sole 4‑star property, spans 24 hectares of coral‑reef beachfront. The staff were genuine and caring, which made the holiday enjoyable. Tour information could use improvement: we went on a whale shark tour but were not told we needed to bring cash, and since there was no EFT option we were stuck for two hours waiting for the ferry back to the resort. The advanced trek around the island was fun but a bit dodgy in places; a heads‑up on what to expect would have been helpful.

The stay itself was pleasant, but the service we received from Maymay at the front desk was extremely disappointing. She treated us in a dismissive, condescending and disrespectful manner, even though we approached her politely and simply asked for assistance. We also witnessed similar behavior toward other hotel staff, which was very uncomfortable to see as guests. That said, we met other members of the hotel team who were kind, welcoming and genuinely helpful. Unfortunately, Maymay’s behavior left a very negative impression and significantly affected our overall experience. Everything was wonderful—what a delightful place! The island is gorgeous, the staff incredibly kind, the buffet superb, and the room was very comfortable with nice beds, a clean shower, and overall cleanliness. We met the owners, who were extremely friendly and lovely people—absolutely recommended! The only downside was that the snorkel fins we wanted to rent were too small; there were only one pair of long fins for my friend and one pair of short fins for me, with no other options available.
