We were offered a room choice upon arrival, which was a lovely treat. The room was spacious and airy with gorgeous historic touches, and the property itself was charming, featuring a green oasis courtyard and fabulous wall art. The bathroom, being a wet room, felt a bit hazardous, had no counter space, and the room lacked a safe or a fridge.

I stayed at an old but comfortable heritage site by a small lake; it isn’t actually near the stepwells where the map shows it, and I wish the rooftop had been open for a sunset drink, though I tried it anyway and it felt uncomfortable.

The hotel’s location is excellent, close to the palace and lake, and the staff were very helpful and friendly; the restaurant food was good and there were several common areas to sit, plus a nice plant-filled atrium, but a hairdryer would have been useful and a few more Indian options at breakfast would have added value for the price we paid.
