The weakest hotel we stayed at on our tour of nine hotels in North India; the location was good, but Orchha is small and getting to the main sights would be hard from any point. The rooms were cramped, the bedding wasn’t fresh, and there was an unpleasant odor in the room. The manager demanded an outrageous sum when we asked to extend one room for a few hours (we were six people staying in three rooms). Hot‑water interruptions were common, as in much of India.

The hotel’s location is close to all the temples, but despite being inexpensive, it should be clean. The rooms were messy, and the towels were sometimes white but now grey, making them scary to touch. In some rooms the doors were broken and had no handles, and everywhere there was dust and neglect.

The staff were amazing—friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and spacious, and the view from the top floor of the temple was a bonus; great location and a quiet area.
