This hostel is simply amazing. You can stay in brand‑new modern rooms with modern bathrooms. There are multiple spots on the property with million‑dollar views of the town below and villages on the other side of the valley with snow‑capped mountains above. After you enter through a 400‑year‑old gate brought from Kashmir you walk onto spacious grounds that feel like a park, filled with every type of fruit tree that grows in the area, and you’re welcome to pick and eat what you want. Something will always be ripe through summer and early autumn. The hostel has a professional chef who can prepare delicious Western and Pakistani food. The meals are superb, with a wide range of choices. For me it was so good I’m extending my stay. Every day there’s something different, and if you like trout you can catch your dinner at the local trout farm and eat it hours later. Some evenings professional musicians come to play traditional instruments and sing traditional songs in an atmospheric sitting room. While roaming the grounds you’ll find a cuddly Pamiri Shepherd dog who just loves human attention and two friendly sheep who seem to think they are dogs. Feed them bread and they’ll wag their tails. A local guide named Hakim is highly recommended. He can organise and lead tours as well as multi‑day or even multi‑week treks in the area. Want to spend five days crossing a glacier? See this man. He has excellent English and is a talented singer. The permanent staff are very friendly and helpful. They really seem to like the guests and nothing is too much trouble for them. Value for money – this has to be one of the best places in Pakistan.
